We're excited to announce that Obermeyer, the Colorado-based ski company, released its new enterprise ecommerce website on Drupal 8 and Drupal Commerce 2.x. The site is the first ecommerce project to launch on Drupal 8.

Bluespark partnered with Commerce Guys, creators of  Drupal Commerce, to complete the design and development. The project was built using Drupal, open source content management software.

The project with Obermeyer began with a broad set of challenges, including three separate websites, three distinct audiences, and independent ERP and B2B ordering systems. The goal was to optimize Obermeyer’s digital processes and consolidate their connections with customers through a single, well-integrated platform.

“Addressing all of these concerns in one application is key to Obermeyer’s online success,” Matt Glaman, Senior Drupal Consultant at Commerce Guys, said. “Instead of losing time managing multiple technologies, they’ll use one platform that provides greater flexibility and accelerates the development of new features moving forward.”

Working with the newly released Drupal 8 and Drupal Commerce 2.x, the Bluespark team — along with Commerce Guys — designed and developed an enterprise ecommerce solution to facilitate a friction-free purchasing experience for B2C, B2B, and VIP audiences alike.

To meet the needs of each audience — or user group — Bluespark prioritized user experience throughout the design process. Here is what Bluespark had to consider:

  • B2C users complete final purchases on one of Obermeyer’s 3rd party dealer websites
  • B2B users buy product through Obermeyer’s website with purchase orders (no cash transactions)
  • VIP users are provided discounts on items that can be purchased directly from Obermeyer in exchange for completing a brief online training

Merging three separate websites from Drupal 6 into a single site on Drupal 8, Bluespark leveraged Drupal's flexibility to craft custom experiences for each audience on top of a single commerce platform. The result is a single system that streamlines Obermeyer’s internal and external processes.

“I’m really proud of the clean, elegant, and awesome way we’ve designed the system,” Michael Tucker, President of Bluespark, said. “To be first — and for it to be such an elegant solution — I’m excited about that.”
